Plot summary
Sadie Thompson is a bar girl from Hawaii. Her boat is quarantined, so she is left on an island, and the Marines at the base take notice of her. A religious zealot and a love-struck Marine are caught up with her. Just after World War II, the bar girl, the zealot and the Marine struggle with sin and salvation, and Sadie sings songs, including Blue Pacific Blues.

- After a two-week run, all 3-D prints of the film were pulled and it was given a national release "flat", in regular prints minus the 3-D; the film was also banned in some places, including Memphis.
- The film's original story of sin and redemption was sanitized to appease the Production Code, and several musical numbers were inserted to spice up the tepid, reworked plot.
- As with her earlier films, Rita Hayworth's singing in the film was dubbed, and the job was again assigned to Jo Ann Greer, as it had been on the previous year's Affair in Trinidad.
