Plot summary
Jenny Marsh has finished a prison term for killing a man, a sentence she served to shield Harry Wesson, the gambler she was involved with. On parole she answers to Griff Marat, who finds her work. She is told to keep away from Harry but disobeys, still loyal to him, and a raid on his bookie joint while she is there costs her the job. Concerned for her welfare, Griff hires her to care for his blind mother.

- Shockproof's original script by Samuel Fuller ended with Marat violently rebelling against the system that kept him and Marsh apart; the studio then brought in National Velvet screenwriter Helen Deutsch to pen a soft-suds rewrite.
- Shockproof shows only brief interiors of the Bradbury Building, standing in for the parole bureau and a doctor's office; the in-office scenes, which reveal the Hall of Justice and the demolished Hall of Records, appear instead to have been shot in Los Angeles City Hall offices on N. Spring Street.
- British serial killer John Straffen committed a murder in 1951 on his way to see Shockproof at the cinema.
