Robert Quarry
Biography
Robert Quarry was an American actor who built a long career in film and television before becoming a horror star. Born in California, he left school at 14 to work in radio and formed a theatrical troupe while serving in the Army during World War II, then acted for RKO and then MGM. After two decades of supporting parts, including guest spots on Perry Mason and The Lone Ranger, he won starring roles in Count Yorga, Vampire (1970) and The Return of Count Yorga (1971). At American International Pictures he co-starred with Vincent Price in Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972) and Madhouse (1974), and the studio signed him to a long-term contract with hopes he would succeed Price as its leading horror name. He also appeared in The Deathmaster and Sugar Hill (1974), later returned to supporting roles and television, and from 1987 was cast in more than 20 films by director Fred Olen Ray, beginning with Cyclone.
