Plot summary
On the planet Baab, Scorch Supernova flies missions for BASA while his older brother Gary runs mission control, guiding him from the ground. When an SOS arrives from the Dark Planet, Earth, Gary objects, because no alien who has gone there has come back. Scorch takes the mission anyway, and the argument that follows leads Gary to quit. At home with his wife Kira and their son Kip, Gary watches Scorch's broadcast from Earth, where soldiers under General William Shanker ambush him and take him to Area 51. Kip wants to fly out and rescue his uncle; Gary tells him no.
