Richard Hale
Biography
Richard Hale was an American opera and concert singer who later performed as an actor in movies, on the stage, and on television. Born in Rogersville, Tennessee, in 1892, he attended Columbia University on a singing scholarship and graduated in 1914, then joined Minnie Maddern Fiske's theater company. His 1921 Aeolian Hall debut began a baritone opera career, and he toured Europe and the United States. He narrated the American premiere of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf in Boston, with the composer conducting. He later turned more to acting. His most notable film role was in Friendly Persuasion (1956), and he played the soothsayer in Julius Caesar (1953). Other films included All the King's Men, To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), and The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima (1952), in which he portrayed Father Manuel Ferreira. On television he had four guest roles on Perry Mason and appeared on Star Trek, The Wild Wild West, and The Munsters.

Beyond film
Hale was the narrator for the American premiere of Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf at Symphony Hall in Boston, where Prokofiev conducted. He also narrated the Boston Pops version of the same music that Arthur Fiedler recorded for RCA in 1953.
First role
In 1921 Hale made his debut at Aeolian Hall, which started a successful opera career for him as a baritone. He went on tours of Europe and the United States.
