Peter Bull
Biography
Peter Bull was a British actor who appeared on stage and in supporting film roles. Born in London in 1912 and educated at Winchester College, he made his professional stage debut in If I Were You in 1933. After wartime service in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, he returned to acting and took roles in films and television. He played the ship's captain in The African Queen (1951) and Thwackum, a tutor, in Tom Jones (1963). In 1955, he was the first actor to play Pozzo in the English-language production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot. His role as the Soviet ambassador in Dr. Strangelove (1964) was probably his best known screen performance. He also wrote twelve books.
