  • Producer Charles Schneer said director Jack Sher lacked the experience to direct the picture, so Schneer, cameraman Wilkie Cooper and Ray Harryhausen directed the camera themselves and let Sher talk the actors through their lines.
  • Jack Sher wanted Jack Lemmon for the lead as Lemuel Gulliver, but Columbia did not want him, considering him a comedy actor, so Kerwin Mathews became really the only other choice.
  • Jo Morrow was appearing in Our Man in Havana at the same time as she starred in this film, and she had an affair with director Jack Sher during filmmaking that she says affected her performance.
  • The project began as an Arthur Ross script that he and producer Elliot Lewis pitched to NBC as a fantasy combining the Lilliput and Brobdingnag stories; the network approved it, but it died in a Writers Guild strike.
  • The oldest Harryhausen model made for the film that still exists is the squirrel, which Harryhausen obtained from a taxidermist, while the original armature for the film's crocodile was mysteriously lost.
  • The 3 Worlds of Gulliver featured 150 trick sequences and was the second film to use Ray Harryhausen's Dynamation process, after The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, which was the first.
