Plot summary
Europe is at war and Denmark is neutral when Captain Andersen brings the freighter Helvig into a British contraband control port. Two naval officers, Lt. Commanders Ashton and Ellis, board to inspect the cargo. They offer Andersen and his first officer, Axel Skold, shore passes for dinner, but Mrs. Sorensen and Mr. Pidgeon, two of the ship's passengers, take the passes and the Helvig's motorboat. Andersen works out from a newspaper's cut-out train timetable where they have gone and goes after them, though once he reaches London in the blackout he can hold on only to Mrs. Sorensen. She dines with him at the restaurant of Skold's brother Erik, who runs the place.
