Olwen Fouere

Olwen Fouéré is an Irish actress, writer and director who works in theater, film and visual arts, in both English and French. Born in Galway to Breton parents, she built much of her career on the stage, appearing at the Abbey Theatre, the Gate Theatre, the Royal National Theatre and the Bouffes du Nord, among others. In 1980 she founded the avant-garde Operating Theatre with composer Roger Doyle, and she later set up TheEmergencyRoom, whose projects include RIVERRUN, her adaptation of the river's voice in James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. She has also appeared in works by the artist James Coleman. Her honors include a Special Tribute at the Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2013, the Herald Archangel Award in 2014, and a Samuel Beckett Award in 1998 for By the Bog of Cats. She was nominated for an IFTA for her supporting role in The Survivalist (2015).
