Nick Cravat
Biography
Nick Cravat, born Nicholas Cuccia in Manhattan, began as an acrobat before working as a stunt performer and actor. At a New York summer camp he befriended Burt Lancaster, and in the early 1930s the two toured circuses, among them Florida's Kay Brothers, and vaudeville as the act Lang and Cravat. The act ended in 1939. Cravat went on to appear with Lancaster in nine films, including The Crimson Pirate (1952), The Flame and the Arrow (1950), The Scalphunters (1968), Run Silent, Run Deep (1958) and The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977). Because of his thick Brooklyn accent, he was often cast as a mute, in The Flame and the Arrow, The Crimson Pirate and Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, and in the television series The Count of Monte Cristo. He also played the gremlin on an airplane wing in a 1963 episode of The Twilight Zone. He died in 1994.
