Neil Hamilton
Biography
Neil Hamilton was an American actor of stage, screen, and television who worked for more than half a century and is best remembered as Commissioner Gordon on the 1960s Batman series. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1899, he entered show business as a shirt model in magazine advertising, then trained with stock companies before his first film role in The Beloved Impostor (1918). D. W. Griffith gave him his break with The White Rose (1923), and he traveled to Germany with Griffith for Isn't Life Wonderful (1924). At Paramount he became a leading man, often opposite Bebe Daniels, and he played Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby (1926). He originated Harry Holt in Tarzan the Ape Man (1932) and returned for Tarzan and His Mate (1934). Later he worked in serials and B films, hosted Hollywood Screen Test, and played Commissioner Gordon in all 120 episodes of Batman and in its 1966 film.
