Plot summary
A famous comedian dies in a plane crash, leaving the managers who handled his career without the act that kept them employed. They settle on Stanley Belt, a bellhop at the hotel where they are staying, and set about turning him into a star. Before any public performance comes a publicity campaign and a grooming process. Stanley is outfitted at a luxury clothing store and swarmed over at a luxury barber shop. His managers use their connections to open doors for him, among them a spot on The Ed Sullivan Show. What none of them can fix is Stanley himself, who shows no sign of the song-and-dance talent the job requires.
