Mary Ellen Trainor

Biography

Mary Ellen Trainor was an American character actress who studied broadcast journalism at San Diego State University and worked at radio stations before turning to acting. Her first television role came in a 1983 episode of Cheers, and she made her film debut in Romancing the Stone (1984). She became best known as Irene Walsh in The Goonies (1985), as the police psychiatrist Dr. Stephanie Woods in the Lethal Weapon movies from 1987 to 1998, and as newscaster Gail Wallens in Die Hard (1988) and Ricochet (1991). Her other movies included The Monster Squad (1987), Death Becomes Her (1992) and Congo (1995), and she had recurring television parts in Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Relativity and Roswell. The Goonies, Die Hard and Forrest Gump, all among her credits, were later added to the National Film Registry.
