Plot summary
Urbania, Ohio is home to Kevin O'Shea, a Heisman Trophy winner who coaches the Pee-Wee Cowboys. At tryouts his niece Becky, the strongest player on the field, is dropped solely for being a girl, as are her friends Rashid Hanon, Tad Simpson and Rudy Zolteck. Mocked by the boys who did make the roster, Becky turns to her father Danny, Kevin's younger brother, and gets him to start a pee-wee team of their own. Danny wants to prove to the town that his brother can be beaten. Since the league allows only one team per town, the two brothers agree to a playoff game to determine which squad represents Urbania. Danny recruits the kids nobody picked and names them the Little Giants; Junior Floyd becomes their quarterback, and his mother Patty was Danny's boyhood crush.

- Little Giants began as a 1992 McDonald's Super Bowl commercial by Jim Ferguson and Bob Shallcross; after seeing it, Steven Spielberg contacted them and said he wanted the commercial made into a movie, and wanted his own "Home Alone."
- In a 2010 NCAA football game, Michigan State beat Notre Dame on a fake field goal touchdown pass in overtime, and head coach Mark Dantonio said the play was called "Little Giants," the film's title.
- The Cowboys uniforms worn in the film were the actual uniforms the Dallas Cowboys wore during the 1994 season, made as part of the NFL's 75th anniversary.
