Margaret Cho
Biography
Margaret Cho is a San Francisco-born comedian, actor and musician who came up through Bay Area comedy clubs and starred in the ABC sitcom All-American Girl from 1994 to 1995. She won an American Comedy Award as best female comedian in 1993, after an early television role on The Golden Palace. On screen she played Charlene Lee in It's My Party (1996) and an FBI colleague of John Travolta's character in Face/Off (1997). She went on to play the paralegal Teri Lee on Drop Dead Diva and earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for playing Kim Jong Il on 30 Rock, later returning as Kim Jong Un. The one-woman show she wrote and performed, I'm the One That I Want, won a New York magazine performance award. She co-starred in Fire Island (2022) and appeared in the documentary Do I Sound Gay? (2015). She also hosted podcasts and released the comedy album Cho Dependent, which earned a Grammy nomination.

Cho's first one-woman show, I'm the One That I Want, came in 1999 and dealt with her All-American Girl struggles. That same year it took New York magazine's Performance of the Year award.

In April 2011, Cho appeared as a guest on 30 Rock, playing Kim Jong Il, North Korea's leader at the time, in the episode "Everything Sunny All the Time Always". The role called for her to speak Korean and English, and she earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
Behind the camera
Cho founded a clothing line called High Class Cho in 2003 with friend and fashion designer Ava Stander, though the company eventually went defunct.
