Biography
Mabel Paige was an American stage and screen performer who began acting as a small child. Born in New York City to vaudevillian parents, she appeared in Van, the Virginian at age four and entered stock theater when she was eleven. Onstage she played roles in Little Lord Fauntleroy, Rip van Winkle, and At Cozy Corners, and in the South she was celebrated as the Idol of the South while her own troupes, including the Mabel Paige Theatrical Company, toured the region. Her Broadway credits included Lost Horizons (1934), Murder in the Cathedral (1936), Out of the Frying Pan (1941), Two Blind Mice (1949), and Gramercy Ghost (1951). In film she made more than fifty pictures from 1914 to 1953, starting with silent romantic comedies for the Lubin Company in which Oliver Hardy was her leading man. On television she appeared on I Love Lucy in 1953 and Annie Oakley in 1954.
