Plot summary
Twelve-year-old Igor Grom barely sees his father: police major Konstantin Grom works the Anubis case in 1990s St. Petersburg, and his chief urges him to drop it and pay attention to his son. Konstantin misses Igor's English Olympiad and refuses to fund a trip after Igor wins two tickets to Disneyland. Igor takes a bullet from his father's service pistol for a stunt behind the garages, and the trick damages a bandit's car, costing him his money. His friend Ignat then proposes helping journalist Alexey Prischurov gather dirt on the city's elite, said to be tied to Anubis, and the boys agree.
