Plot summary
Robinson has spent years captaining underwater salvage vessels; he is divorced and he is estranged from his son, and his firm, Agora, has just let him go. Kurston, a former co-worker, brings word that the company found a World War II German U-boat off the coast of Georgia with a cargo of gold aboard but could not recover it because of territorial disputes after the Russo-Georgian War. Robinson and Blackie take the proposition to Lewis, a mystery man who will fund the expedition for a large share of the profits and sends his executive Daniels along. Tobin, a young friend of Kurston, joins as well. The crew, half British and half Russian, is promised an equal share each, and in Crimea they acquire an old submarine. Blackie alone speaks both languages.
