Plot summary

Sophia is the daughter of a wealthy merchant, and Greg, who is sixteen and works as a servant, loves her. She loves him in return. Her parents want her to marry a different man, one of high social standing and low morals. They part the two by force and put Greg in the army of General Alexander Suvorov. The general's troops set off on the Swiss expedition, and Greg goes with them.
