Plot summary
Samara, 1956. At a holiday celebration, Tatiana takes an icon down from the wall; her betrothed has not arrived, and she does not wait for him. She dances with a partner, and in the middle of the dance one of the two is suddenly unable to move, and the state holds for many months. People in the provincial town are frightened by what has happened, and rumors and speculation gather around it. A journalist from a metropolitan newspaper travels to Samara to try to work out what happened. The real events behind the story became known as the Standing Zoe.
