Plot summary
Tollea is engaged to Ramu, but before they can marry she is seized and brought to Cobra Island, a place that outsiders are forbidden to enter. Hava, who serves the Queen, warns Ramu that he should not follow her. Ramu takes a boat to the island anyway, and his young friend Kado comes along as a stowaway. Ruler of the island is the Queen, whom Tollea finds to be her grandmother. Searching the jungle for Tollea, Ramu is set upon by a panther, and a dart fired from Kado's blowgun saves him. The two of them continue looking for Tollea on the island.

- Although largely forgotten by general audiences in the 21st century, Cobra Woman is revered by film buffs as a camp classic for Maria Montez's phallic snake-dance and her delivery, as Naja, of the line "Give me that Cobra jewel", and avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger has called it his favorite film.
- Director Robert Siodmak said Maria Montez lived her roles off camera: when she played a princess the crew had to treat her like one all through lunch, but when she played a slave girl you could kick her around and she would not object, behavior he called Method Acting before its time.
- According to a Turner Classic Movies description, the absurdity of the plot of Cobra Woman inspired actor, director and playwright Charles Ludlam of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company and novelist Gore Vidal.
