Plot summary
Dal Traven and his brother Mac Traven were on different sides in the Civil War. When the fighting ends, Dal, a Confederate soldier, is about to be hanged, and Mac, a Union officer, frees him. The brothers ride home together and find the homestead looted. Their sisters, their younger brother Jesse, and Dal's girlfriend Kate Connery have been seized by Major Cooper Ashbury and the rebel guerrillas riding with him, men who will not accept that the Confederacy has lost the war. Ashbury's men are camped on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, where he expects a smuggler, Holiday Hammond, to bring guns in trade for the stolen goods, livestock and captives. Dal and Mac set out after the raiders.
