Plot summary
Bat Masterson has handed his saloon in Hays City to his friend Ben Townsend to settle a gambling debt, and he hunts buffalo to raise the money to buy it back. Ben asks him to take along his brother Billy. A gunman, Dave Rudabaugh, warns Bat not to return to Hays City; Bat goes anyway and wounds a jealous cavalry sergeant in a gunfight. He relocates to Dodge City, where Ed Masterson serves as City Marshal. Ed is running against the corrupt County Sheriff Jim Regan in the election and is in love with Pauline Howard, a minister's daughter. Bat goes into partnership with Lily, the widowed owner of the Lady Gay saloon, whom the sheriff and his deputies are trying to drive out of business.
