Plot summary
Joe Peters is an insurance investigator. At the airport he meets Diane, who lacks the fare and passes herself off as his wife for a half-fare ticket. A storm forces an emergency landing and a layover, and they share a hotel room. Joe is drawn to her despite his dislike of chiselers, while Diane wants what his $350 a month cannot buy. They part in Los Angeles. Joe and his partner Harry Miller are assigned to investigate Kendall Webb, the prime suspect in several fur robberies. Joe encounters Diane again, now Webb's mistress.
