David Wayne
Biography
David Wayne, an American actor and singer, worked in theater, film and television for more than five decades. Born in Traverse City, Michigan, he attended Western Michigan University for two years and began acting with a Cleveland repertory theater in 1936. His first major Broadway part was Og the leprechaun in Finian's Rainbow, which brought him a Theatre World Award and the first Tony for a featured musical actor. His second Tony came for The Teahouse of the August Moon, and he earned a nomination for The Happy Time. He also originated Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts. On screen he was usually a supporting player, appearing in Adam's Rib (1949), M (1951), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and The Tender Trap (1955). He was known for Dr. Charles Dutton in The Andromeda Strain (1971) and played the Mad Hatter on Batman. He died in 1995.
