Barry Otto
Biography
Barry Otto is an Australian actor who came to acting through amateur theater in the 1970s, born in Brisbane in 1941 and never formally trained. His lead role as Harry Joy in Bliss (1985) brought him a best actor award from the Film Critics Circle of Australia, and playing Doug Hastings in Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom (1992) won him two supporting actor prizes, from the Australian Film Institute and the Film Critics Circle. He appeared in Lilian's Story (1996) and as Roy in Cosi (1996), a part that earned him a Green Room Award, and later in Oscar and Lucinda (1997), Rogue (2007), Newcastle (2008) and The Dressmaker (2015). His voice work includes Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010) and Blinky Bill the Movie (2015), while on television he has ranged from the soap Until Tomorrow to the miniseries Vietnam and Faraway Downs.
