Plot summary
Harry Beckmeyer, an Australian anthropologist, gets 1905 footage showing Aboriginal people sacrificing a wolf-like creature, and tries to warn the US president that werewolf attacks are spreading, but the president is not convinced. Jerboa, a young werewolf, runs away from Thylo, her sexually abusive stepfather. She spends a night on a bench near the Sydney Opera House, where Donny Martin, an American, offers her a part in a horror movie, Shape Shifters Part 8. Its director, Jack Citron, praises her and takes her on. When the two watch a film showing a werewolf change, Jerboa says the scene is wrong and tells Donny she is a werewolf.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Philippe Mora disliked Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf and how its producers added extra footage, such as shots of breasts, after he left. He made the third film himself, raising the money with co-producer Charles Waterstreet, to make amends.
- Philippe Mora took his idea for Howling III from the real Tasmanian tiger and reframed the werewolf story so that it sides with the werewolves, subverting the conventions of the sub-genre.
- Howling III is the only PG-13 rated entry in the Howling film series and the last film in the series to be released in theaters.
