Plot summary
Grace MacCaullay grew up in foster care and is marrying Alex, the estranged son of the family that owns the Le Domas games business, at the family mansion. On her wedding night she meets Alex's brother Daniel and Daniel's wife Charity, Alex's sister Emilie with her husband Fitch and their sons Georgie and Gabe, Aunt Helene, Alex's parents Tony and Becky, and the butler Stevens. Tony tells the couple that his great-grandfather Victor Le Domas built the family fortune through a bargain with a figure called Le Bail, and that each new member of the family marks a wedding by drawing a card from Le Bail's puzzle box at midnight. Grace's card reads Hide-and-Seek. The family hands out weapons, and Grace hides.
