Maureen Coyle, a young nun, is forced out of her convent after another nun falls to her death from a bell tower. Duane Duke, a musician short of money, picks her up on the highway, makes a pass at her and leaves her on the road. She reaches the diner where Norman Bates sits with Tracy Venable, a Los Angeles journalist writing about killers released from custody. Norman notices the initials M.C. on Maureen's suitcase and her likeness to Marion Crane, and hurries out. Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Psycho III (1986)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Universal wanted pop songs so Psycho III could be marketable to the MTV Generation; Carter Burwell wrote songs with Stanton Miranda and Steve Bray, then attempted one with Danny Elfman sampling Bernard Herrmann's original Psycho strings, but that idea was also rejected.
- The song "Scream of Love" was co-written with jazz saxophonist David Sanborn and released as a 7-inch single with dance remixes by Arthur Baker; MCA commissioned a video featuring Burwell, Perkins and a "Hitchcockian woman" that Perkins introduced as an MTV guest VJ.
- Carter Burwell's Psycho III score was later sampled by the hip hop group Insane Poetry on the intro to their 1992 debut album Grim Reality, and by British musician Aim on the title track of his 1999 album Cold Water Music.
- Psycho III was the first film Anthony Perkins directed; he said he took the job because he found the script fascinating.
