Roberta Maxwell
Biography
Roberta Maxwell is a Canadian actress who started stage training in her early teens and spent two years as child co-host of John Clark's Junior Magazine on CBC Television. She first appeared at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in 1956, playing Shakespearean roles such as Ursula, Lady Anne, Olivia, and Anne, then worked three years in English repertory before her West End debut in A Majority of One. After first traveling to New York at 19, she made her Broadway debut in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in 1968 and later appeared in Equus in 1974. Her screen work includes Popeye (1980), The Changeling (1980), Psycho III (1986), Philadelphia (1993), Dead Man Walking (1995), and Brokeback Mountain (2005). Her supporting turn in Last Night (1998) brought a Genie Award nomination, and she won Obie Awards in 1970 and 1977, plus a Drama Desk Award in 1971.
