Plot summary
A young man is discovered unconscious behind the wheel of a car that has crashed in Montana, near the Canadian border, on a February night; weapons-grade uranium is in the trunk. He is held in a high-security prison and tortured for months, saying nothing but curses in a language no one identifies. Then he hands over a list of numbers and letters, and the supernova they describe occurs the next day exactly as he predicted. Fifteen years on, Ramiro remains in the secret prison two kilometers below ground, while the United States, acting on what he has told them, hunts the ninety-eight temporal jihadists he says arrived with him. CIA agent Carmen Reese comes to the prison to question him and to look into the death of the interrogator she is replacing.
