Plot summary
A solar eclipse above the Pacific Ocean chills the mesosphere, and the cold, denser air penetrates the weakened ozone layer, spreading an ice fog. The fog engulfs the research vessel of the International Climate Research Organization, killing the crew, and an autopsy confirms flash freeze. Zoe Quinn salvages what remains of the research data and finds satellite images of a cold front expanding toward Tasmania. In Hobart, Jack has met a divorce lawyer, and his willingness to stay at ICRO has strained his relationship with his wife Emma, a forensic pathologist, and their daughter Naomi. Jack fears there is little time to warn the people in the cold front's path.
