Plot summary
Molly Mahoney works at Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the magical toy shop of the 243-year-old Mr. Edward Magorium. She was a piano prodigy as a child and now, at twenty-three, she feels stuck, and her first concerto is still unfinished. Eric Applebaum, a lonely boy in a collection of hats, comes in every day and helps out, alongside Bellini, the store's bookbuilder. When the last pair of shoes Magorium bought in Toscana wears out, he hires the accountant Henry Weston to put the shop's paperwork in order and work out what he will leave to Molly. Magorium says he intends to leave, and that the store will pass to her. Henry does not believe the place is magic, and Molly, who does not feel ready to run it, asks Magorium to stay.
