Plot summary
Elvis Cooney leaves his wife Olivia and his daughter Adria at home and drives to the Los Angeles station KLAT for the midnight slot. Before the show he meets Dylan, a new intern, and pranks him on the air. Mary runs the switchboard beside him. Then Gary calls, saying he is inside Elvis's house with Olivia and Adria and will kill them if the call is cut. Gary blames Elvis for the suicide of Lauren, an earlier switchboard operator who endured his crude jokes at her expense. He also pushes Elvis to admit, with the microphone open, that he and Mary have been involved.
