Plot summary
Dr. James Martin comes to a state penitentiary to evaluate Edward Wayne Brady, a serial killer scheduled to die in the electric chair that night. Warden Tom Moss warns him that the inmate is a manipulator who can get inside a person's head, and notes that the doctor's predecessor, Dr. Alan Fischer, took his own life after interviewing Edward. The warden wants a finding of sanity. In their first conversation Edward recites details of the psychiatrist's private and working life, then says he is a demon called Nefariamus, who answers to Nefarious, living in Edward's body. He says he took the man because Edward was never baptized. He also says the doctor will commit three murders before the day is over, and accuses him of ending his mother's life.
