Plot summary
Washington is preparing a peace treaty with the Apaches. A gang of outlaws wants the signing stopped, since open war between the tribes and the settlers would let the gang seize Indian land. The gang supplies the Comanche tribe of Chief Big Bear with whiskey and sends its warriors against ranches, stagecoaches and wagon trains, leaving dead Apache behind at the scenes, until General Taylor, the local Army commander, holds the Apaches responsible. Old Shatterhand, a scout, rides to his friend the Apache chief Winnetou, whose people want peace. Taylor agrees to let the two look into the raids, then is called to Washington and puts Captain Bradley in charge of the fort, a man set on proving Apache guilt.
