Plot summary

Seetha, the temple dancer promised to Maharaja Chandra, and Harald Berger, the architect she loves, are running from the maharaja's soldiers, the shikaris, when a caravan finds them in the desert and brings them to a small village. The greedy host of the house where the two are lodged sends word of them to Prince Ramigani, the maharaja's brother. The pair flees again, and Ramigani and his men hunt them down and take them prisoner. In the meantime Harald's sister Irene and her husband Walter have come from Europe to look for him, and Chandra has them as guests at his palace in Eschnapur.
