Plot summary
A German U-boat puts a group of saboteurs ashore on Canadian soil, and an avalanche wipes out all of them except their leader, Colonel Hugo von Keller. Corporal Steve Wagner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police captures him, and rather than bring him straight in, Wagner sends a colleague ahead with the report so that von Keller can recover. Von Keller learns that Wagner speaks German and has German roots, and questions him about his views on the war. Wagner's answers suggest he might be sympathetic to the German cause, and the Mounties, doubting where he stands, send a patrol to bring both men in.

- Errol Flynn collapsed on the set of Northern Pursuit in May 1943 and was hospitalized for a week. The studio released word that he had an upper respiratory ailment, but the actor was actually battling tuberculosis.
- Warner Bros. knew that star Errol Flynn had just been acquitted in a real-life rape trial, and the scandal only increased the box-office draw of the 1943 film.
- Studio work at Burbank and location shooting at Sun Valley, Idaho were used to replicate the Canadian north, with stock footage of Winnipeg for the court martial sequence. No location photography took place in Canada.
- The film's bomber is the Lockheed Hudson, which appeared often in Warner Bros. films because the Lockheed plant stood near the studio and photography was arranged around bomber delivery schedules. Model and live-action footage were combined for the aircraft sequences.
