Julie Bishop
Biography
Julie Bishop was an American film and television actress who began as a child performer in 1923 and made more than 80 films before retiring in 1957. Born Jacqueline Brown in Denver, she acted as Jacqueline Wells through 1941 and on stage as Diane Duval. Her first talkies were Hal Roach short comedies with Laurel and Hardy, after which she freelanced, taking supporting parts at large studios and leads at small ones. An ingenue role in The Bohemian Girl (1936) won her a Columbia Pictures contract and a run of minor action features. At Warner Bros. from 1941, using the name Julie Bishop, she made 16 films, including Action in the North Atlantic (1943), Princess O'Rourke (1943) and Northern Pursuit (1943), in which she was Errol Flynn's leading lady. She later appeared in Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) with John Wayne and The High and the Mighty (1954), then turned to television, notably in Bob Cummings's situation comedies.
