Plot summary
Kitty O'Day works as a secretary for the investment broker Oliver M. Wentworth, and she is convinced she has the makings of a detective. When Wentworth is found murdered, she sees her chance to test her skills. Inspector Miles Clancy, who is handling the case, is annoyed by her interference, and he comes to suspect that Kitty herself is the culprit. Clancy also declines to look into Wentworth's widow, and that is one of the things that pushes Kitty to work the case on her own. Her boyfriend, Johnny Jones, lends a hand only reluctantly as she tries to clear her name.
