Plot summary
Longfellow Deeds lives in Mandrake Falls, New Hampshire, where he runs a pizzeria with his friend Jan and spends his free time writing greeting cards he hopes Hallmark will accept. When his great-uncle Preston Blake, the billionaire founder of Blake Media, dies while climbing Mount Everest, Deeds learns he is the closest living relative and heir. He flies to New York City, meets the company's general counsel, Cecil Anderson, and Blake's butler, Emilio Lopez, and plans are made for him to sell his shares for $40 billion. Chuck Cedar, the CEO, resents the newcomer. Meanwhile, tabloid reporter Babe Bennett invents the persona of Pam Dawson, a school nurse, and has her colleague Marty stage a purse snatching so that Deeds can rescue her.
