Plot summary
Four years after the earlier deaths at Crestview Academy, a new group of seniors serves Saturday detention. Siouxsie Hess, a sophomore the seniors call "undercrust," wants to be in that room with them: her older sister Alyson, a senior and a school journalist, fell from a roof at a party, and Siouxsie refuses to accept that it was suicide. Ben, known as "The Naked Wizard," promises to arrange it. At the Academy she damages Headmaster Nash's car, and Nash sends her to Dr. Knight, who hands out punishment. Detention brings her together with Brian Marquez, Sara Hasegawa, Faith Jackson and Blaine Wilkes. Nash confiscates their cellphones, and Knight tells them that every door in the school now works on a passcode. The library will not open.
