Plot summary
Dawn O'Keefe grows up near a nuclear power plant and lives with her mother, her stepfather and her stepbrother Brad. In high school her biology class studies evolution. She speaks for a Christian group that urges abstinence, and she has promised to stay chaste until she marries. She and Tobey, a boy at school, are drawn to each other, and with her friends Gwen and Phil they go out as a group. A classmate, Ryan, admires her.
