Live from New York! (2015) on Netflix

Plot summary

For forty years, Saturday Night Live has reflected and influenced life in the United States, and the documentary goes deep inside the show that did it. It looks at the early years, an experiment run by a young Lorne Michaels with a cast of unknowns, and at the evolution into a comedy institution that followed. Archival footage is woven together with stolen moments and commentary from journalists, hosts, musical guests, crew members, SNL legends and others the show influenced. Across nearly 800 episodes, politics, media, tragedy and pop culture run through the decades of the show, given an irreverent edge.
