Art of the Prank (2015) on Netflix

Plot summary

Joey Skaggs works as an artist, an activist and a social satirist, and his medium is the media hoax. He prepares a new prank aimed at the world media, the most complex one he has attempted, and he draws on every trick he has learned to make it work. The documentary follows that hoax as it unfolds and places it alongside archive material from his earlier performance pieces, which prestigious journalists once reported as fact. Commentary comes from people who took part in the hoaxes and from others. Skaggs argues for independent thinking and treats the prank as a form of art.
