Plot summary
Joan Rivers calls herself an actress first, with her comedy and writing as extensions of that. At 75, after more than forty years in the business, she wants a calendar packed with engagements, both for the income and for what the bookings tell her about her own worth. She watches Kathy Griffin take the dates she once had. The year brings a Kennedy Center Honors for George Carlin, a New York double bill with Don Rickles, a Comedy Central roast she dreads, a play she tests in Edinburgh, and an Apprentice appearance that would put her back on NBC, which blacklisted her after her break with Johnny Carson. Daughter Melissa Rivers, assistant Jocelyn Pickett and manager Bill Sammeth stay close.
