Wolfgang Bodison

Biography

Wolfgang Bodison is an American actor and creative director who was born in Washington, D.C., and studied fine arts at the University of Virginia, where he played football. He worked behind the scenes at Columbia Pictures and Castle Rock Entertainment, then served as Rob Reiner's assistant on Misery before Reiner cast him as Lance Corporal Harold W. Dawson in A Few Good Men (1992), his first acting job. Critics including Rita Kempley and Vincent Canby praised his performance. He went on to appear in Little Big League (1994), Freeway (1996), Most Wanted (1997), Joe Somebody (2001), and later independent films, along with television roles on Nothing Sacred and Family Law. He wrote and directed several short films and shared a Storytelling Achievement Award at the 2014 Laughlin International Film Festival, and he serves as artistic director for the Playhouse West School and Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles.

A change of course
After he graduated, Bodison got a job as a file clerk at Columbia Pictures. He then was hired in 1989 for a job in the mail room at Castle Rock Entertainment.

Bodison was credited as picture-car coordinator on John Singleton's Boyz n the Hood, recruiting car clubs in South Central for the film.
Early training
Bodison had never acted before, so he hired Julie Ariola, an acting coach, to get him ready. Ariola called him a very creative and intelligent kid who was like a sponge.
Behind the camera
Bodison wanted to become a screenwriter and director, and that came true when he wrote and directed the short films Simone, Broken, Sarah's Wish and The Long Wait, which have screened at major festivals worldwide.
Behind the award
At the 2014 Laughlin International Film Festival, Bodison and Yoder both received the Storytelling Achievement Award. Bodison, who wrote and directed the film, said the honor mattered greatly since his task is telling a great story.
