Plot summary
Ted Brooks is a celebrity dentist in Miami, and his practice's advertisement appears on every city bus. A letter from Alaska names him the only heir of Lucy Watkins of Tolketna, and his mother Amelia then reveals that he was adopted and that Lucy was his biological mother. What he inherits is seven Siberian huskies, a border collie named Nana and Lucy's property. Ted has never driven a sled, the lead dog Demon will not obey him, and a mountain man called Thunder Jack Johnson keeps trying to buy the team. The Arctic Challenge race is two weeks away, and Barb, who runs the local bar, shows Ted how to handle the dogs.
