Trailer

Plot summary

Ten-year-old Danny Madigan lives with Irene, his widowed mother, in a New York City neighborhood plagued by crime, and after his father's death he takes comfort in action movies, above all the Jack Slater series. Nick, who owns the condemned theater and works its projector, hands him a golden ticket once belonging to Harry Houdini and lets him into an early screening of Jack Slater IV. Partway through the film the stub carries Danny into the Slater world, cutting into a car chase. At LAPD headquarters Danny lists the clues that this world is fiction, among them a cartoon cat detective named Whiskers, and Slater shrugs them off as the boy's imagination. Lieutenant Dekker assigns Danny to Slater as a partner and orders them to look into the dealings of mafia boss Tony Vivaldi.
