Plot summary
Julien Pardot has no work and a business that will not improve. His answer is to invent a partner, a businessman with a name and a reputation and no face, and to put that name to use in his dealings. No one has ever seen the man. The invention works: the business becomes successful, and the fictitious associate grows beyond the control of the man who invented him.
